BEHIND THE MUSIC OF MATTHEW KLEM
Matthew teaches drums, bass, piano, and early childhood classes. He grew up in a music-loving family. Thanks to his parents, he began enjoying bands such as Pink Floyd and The Doors before he could walk. In sixth grade, he joined the middle school band as a percussionist. He then picked up guitar and bass and began to take private lessons for guitar. Freshman year of high school, Matthew’s friends had a band without a drummer. With no prior knowledge of him ever picking up a drumstick, they asked him to sit behind the kit. He instantly fell in love with the drum set and began to take private lessons and music theory courses. After high school, Matthew attended the Atlanta Institute of Music, from which he graduated with honors. Since graduation Matthew has performed with the Forsyth Academy of Performing Arts, original rock groups, and cover bands. Matthew’s main influences come from funk, jazz, and rock. Along with private lessons, he is currently teaching at Bach to Rock John's Creek.
